Mary Gregory Uranium Glass Pitcher

This is a Mary Gregory style uranium glass pitcher. It is characterized by:
  • Material: Uranium glass, which contains a small amount of uranium oxide, causing it to glow green under UV light. This type of glass was popular from the 1880s to the 1930s.
  • Style: The decoration is in the Mary Gregory style, featuring a white enamel-painted scene of a child on a ladder reaching for a birdhouse in a tree. Although named after the American artist Mary Gregory, it is believed that most of this type of glass was produced in Bohemia, England, or Italy.
  • Color: The glass is a translucent green, typical of uranium glass.
  • Form: It is a pitcher with a ruffled rim and a curved handle.

Uranium glass is considered safe for use as the amount of uranium is low, but it should be handled with care like any antique glass item.
